CYPRUS WEATHER
Summer stretches from May to mid-October with high temperatures, clear skies and cooling sea breezes. In the height of Summer (July/August) you would be best avoiding the hottest part of the day. October until December are still sunny and the water warm enough for comfortable swimming and it is still advisable to bring sun cream and a hat! Temperatures are refreshingly cooler in the Troodos mountains.
DRIVING IN CYPRUS
Car hire is advisable as there are many beautiful beaches, traditional Cypriot villages and historic sites within a short drive. Cyprus traffic drives on the left-hand side of the road, as in the UK and all of the road signs etc. will be familiar to you. There is also a very cheap bus service running from Paralimni, through Kapparis and Protaras to Ayia Napa.
There are many car hire companies at Larnaca airport as well as in the Kapparis area (see USEFUL LINKS page). Car hire can be booked in advance on-line, REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR DRIVING LICENCE. Tip: email the local companies for the best deals!
ELECTRICITY
Cyprus, like the UK runs on a Voltage of 220-240 Volts and uses identical 3-pin plugs to the UK, so you won’t need an adaptor.
LANGUAGES OF CYPRUS
The native tongue of Cyprus is Greek, although English is spoken by over 90% of the native population.
CYPRIOT CURRENCY
In Jan 2008 Cyprus joined the Euro, which replaced the Cyprus Pound.
HEALTHCARE
Both public and private healthcare services are of a high standard and no vaccinations are required.
